Marinescapes

Buckinghams' interest in maritime painting began with a partnership in
the de-commissioned U.S. Coast Guard lightship, Frying Pan #115.
After working closely with the Coast Guard during the commemoration of
the 50th anniversary of World War II, including being the official
artist for the anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic and D-day,
Buckingham widened his interest to include portraits of contemporary
vessels as well as historic sailing ships.
His paintings of ships are very highly detailed, finished oil
paintings on panel and canvas. He recently completed a 16' x 36' mural
of the U.S.S. Intrepid being hit by two Kamikazes within five minutes
during the battle of Leyte Gulf in World War II. One hundred men lost
their lives on board the Intrepid, which is now a memorial and major
maritime museum in New York City.
