About The Artist

Russell Joseph Buckingham is a renowned artist from New York City. He has been staff artist for the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City and was official artist for the 5oth Anniversary of D-Day for the U.S. Coast Guard. He has completed many commissioned portraits of admirals for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard including the official portrait of the last Commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral James M. Loy.

The artist specializes in marinescapes, portraits and murals and has completed murals for the Empire State Building, Graceland, Hearst Castle, the Houston Space Center, Daytona 500, and the late John F. Kennedy Jr.'s home in Hyannisport, MA.

One of his murals for the "Top of the World Trace Center" was destroyed on 9/11/01 and the second mural (which was to be installed on 9/13) is now part of a memorial to 9/11 at the Intrepid Museum in New York City.

He also just completed one of the largest marine paintings in the world for the Intrepid as a centerpiece for a new exhibit on the Intrepid's experience during World War II.
